big brother is watching...

Things are getting scary at work. As of today they are "actively monitoring" where everyone goes online. No big deal. I knew there was always that possibility, so I've never gone anywhere "bad." The problem is, what is bad? Naturally porn, chatting and the like are bad. What about eBay or Netflix? Technically, we are not supposed to do anything not work-related. That's why I set up my Yahoo! email account years ago to avoid using my work email.

Another scary thing is the talk of installing something called Ghost on all PCs. This would enable them to remotely access our PCs and hard drives. This would be good for upgrading or installing software on the PCs without having to go to each PC. Sure, I can see that. But we have our own in-house tech support - Dean. He's the one who keeps me in the loop on these things. He also gave our boss's boss enough "ammunition" to go to his boss with concerns about this Ghost thing. No dice, he's doing it anyway. My concern is the fact that at any time they could see what's on my desktop. I could be logged into my online banking and bill pay site, or one of our credit card sites. Or I could be typing or reading a personal email from one of my web accounts. Oh yeah, I could be playing solitaire. (I really have a problem.)

It's getting like Big Brother up in here. I'm glad my personal PC is separate from my work PC at home. I mean, I'm not doing anything nefarious or scandalous, but it's my personal business I'm worried about. And identity theft. Doesn't that seem like a huge breach of our security? Yeah yeah, state computers, etc. Fuck, we're human! Are we not to do anything not work-related at work? Next thing you know we'll have to clock in and out when we go to the bathroom, and be timed.
